Characters: Jasper
Jasper
begins life as a typical baby mule, full of curiosity and
wonder toward his new world. He is playful, humorous, clever
and warm, with a natural affection for humans. He is curious
and boisterous in his reactions. As he matures, his curiosity,
humor and intelligence remain, but he grows a little suspicious
of human behavior. He always tries to do his best and is
confused when humans—particularly Mr. Chaney—don’t
think life is as fun as he thinks it is! When he can’t
please his new owner, he turns to an old horse for guidance
and friendship. Like a real mule, Jasper forgives Mr. Chaney's
ignorance and continues to try and do his best. Had Mr. Chaney
been really cruel, Jasper could not have remained friendly.
He would have been forced to protect himself by developing
avoidance behaviors. |
